Lake Tahoe Fishing Season Opener

 

 

The 2008 trout opener was Saturday for all streams outside the Lake Tahoe basin. Make sure to bring your fishing flashers when you go out on the lakes. This included the East and West fork of the Carson river where it was widely reported to be on of the nicest openers in terms of weather anyone could remember. Many anglers were seen in shorts and t-shirts with lightweight breathable waders being the norm for fly fishermen. The reports were spotty but a number of limits were taken the the vicinity of the East Fork area and near the East Fork resort. This blogger personally saw a 5-6 pound Rainbow being carried back to camp on highway 88 near Woodfords. With warmer temperatures forecast the water clarity may drop for a few weeks as the main runoff from a significant Sierra snowpack begins to melt.

California fishing licenses can be purchased at Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters, Mile High Fishing Charters, Tahoe Sport Fishing, The Sportsman, Kmart, Longs Drugs and Raleys supermarkets.

All streams that flow into Lake Tahoe are closed until July1.
