Another Cold Winter Storm For Lake Tahoe
It looks like Lake Tahoe will be in for more winter weather including snow, cold and blizzard conditions starting again tomorrow night (Thursday) and continuing into Friday. 1-2 feet of new, light champagne powder will fall during that time frame. After that storm passes it will be cold, possibly the coldest Lake Tahoe has seen in a few years with temperatures trying to reach 20 degrees for a high and the lows plunging into the sub-zero range.
Once again the great news is most of the Lake Tahoe resorts are open and those that make snow are running their snow guns 24/7. Word on the street has it that Heavenly will be opening both the Nevada and California access points this weekend. I will blog a new post on the current Lake Tahoe Ski and Board conditions after my son Todd gets off the slopes this afternoon. Playing “hookey” Tahoe Style!

| Lake Tahoe Snow 12/08 |
With more storms predicted the Ski and Board resorts should be in full swing for all of the Holidays. If you have not yet booked you Lake Tahoe Vacation Rental call us as we still have a few New Years properties left as well as Christmas. 866-407-0245
My inside informer (neighbor) told me this morning that Heavenly will be opening Stagecoach Thursday and complete California access on Friday. They have been making snow 24/7 for the past 5 days and the entire mountain will be in great shape by the weekend.
The rumor is out the Sierra at Tahoe will try and open on Friday. Stay tuned.
Kirkwood received over 3 feet of new snow and they have been opening new terrain as well including chair 5.
It appears we are in a cold and stormy pattern possibly through the New Year and Christmas looks white!
Here is some recent video in the Comet Park:
Lot’s of New Snow!
Winter is here and at my home we received 14 inches as of 6:00 AM. Very dry and fluffy powder and very cold. The temperature is a balmy 10 degrees with a forecasted high of about 13. We are still under a winter storm warning until 10:00 tonight with predicted additional accumulations of between 10-20 inches! This should get all of our resort in good shap not only with the new natural snow but it is allowing snow-making operations to run full tilt 24 hours a day.
Looking ahead it appears that Lake Tahoe will have off and on snow throughout the week with a reinforcing shot of even colder air midweek and into the weekend. Another significant storm may hit the Lake Tahoe basin and High Sierra over the weekend and into next week. It could be a very stormy Christmas!
We will post some snow photos later this morning so we don’t look like liars!
Here is the statement from the National Weather Service
Statement as of 4:42 AM PST on December 15, 2008
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PST this
evening…
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow remains in effect until 10
PM PST this evening.
* Storm total accumulations through tonight: 10 to 20
inches… with 18 to 30 inches above 7000 feet.
* Winds: southwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Ridge
gusts up to 65 mph.
* Impacts: visibility will be reduced to near zero at times in
heavy snow with blowing snow over the passes. Drifting snow will
create dangerous driving conditions… especially over Sierra
passes. The morning and afternoon commutes will be affected.
Expect significant delays.
Big Winds-Where is the Snow?
Damaging winds will plague the Lake Tahoe area tonight with gusts as high as 145 mile per hour forecasted over the highest ridges and possible 100 MPH gust here in the Lake Tahoe basin. The precipitation will be light with this first burst of cold air butit appears that we should get a decent dump Sunday through Tuesday. 1-3 feet is my guess right now and it will be light powder. Snowmakers at all Sierra resorts will be able to make snow 24/7 for the foreseeable future however so all resorts should be able to open for the all important Christmas/New Years holiday period!!
